Vaccinated visitors can enter Barbados without having to take a pre-travel COVID-19 test, Prime Minister Mia Mottley has announced.

In an address to the nation on Saturday 21 May, Ms Mottley said the requirement to provide a negative rapid antigen or PCR test 24 hours before arriving will no longer apply after Wednesday 25 May 2022.

She added that the government felt “comfortable” lifting the testing restriction because close to 70% of the eligible population in Barbados has now been fully vaccinated.

Ms Mottley stated: “I think that you will appreciate that we’ve always said that we will have a gas and brake approach and given the declines that we’re seeing, we feel comfortable to make a few changes again. I have therefore been advised by the Ministry of Health, that all persons who are vaccinated who are coming into Barbados will no longer need to come in with any kind of test results.

“So, we’re removing testing for vaccinated passengers coming into Barbados. Unvaccinated passengers will still have to test and the Ministry of Health later this week will explain further protocols for unvaccinated persons.”

Ms Mottley added that the existing protocols on mask wearing outdoors will also be adjusted after careful consideration by health officials.

She said: “Outdoor mask-wearing will become optional, but indoors and on public transport a mask will still be required; and there will be no changes at all to what happens in the school system, so schools will remain as they were.”

As of Saturday 21 May 2022, Barbados had recorded a total of 78,919 COVID-19 cases with 440 deaths.
