It’s Time to Get Revved Up for the 2023 Sol Rally Barbados Event
by Karen Rollins May 29, 2023
The Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport event ‘Sol Rally Barbados’ is set to take to the road again from 9-11 June 2023.
The organisers of the 20-stage rally recently confirmed a provisional list of at least 85 drivers for this year’s race including Barbadian sensation and FIA Rookie of the Year, Zane Maloney.
New Zealand’s most successful rally driver, Hayden Paddon, has also been named as a competitor.
The 33rd running of the Barbados Rally Club’s premier event, will begin at 7pm on Friday 9 June with the floodlit Sol SuperSpecial at Bushy Park. Two days of heart pumping action will follow in the northern and eastern parishes of the island before the event finishes back at Bushy Park with the Honda SuperSpecial at 4.30pm on Sunday 11 June.
Speaking at a press briefing on 17 May, Rally Director Neil Barnard revealed that safety was a major consideration as the rally takes places in the streets of Barbados. He confirmed the participation of now-retired international co-driver Paul Nagle as a safety advisor.
Mr Barnard added: “Rallying cannot happen without the cooperation of the people of Barbados.
“We know that every year we attract hundreds of competitors and fans to our island and there are thousands of local rally fans that come out to watch the action, but we must respect the people and communities that we rally within. That respect and cooperation is essential to the sustainability of our sport.”
