The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will arrive in Barbados on Friday 22 April 2022.

The Baton has already made 52 stops on its 269-day journey across the Commonwealth’s 72 nations and territories ahead of the Commonwealth Games’ Opening Ceremony in Birmingham on 28 July 2022.

The Baton will be handed over to Barbados by Trinidad and Tobago’s Chef de Mission for Birmingham 2022, Lovie Santana. The welcoming party for the event will include the UK’s Deputy High Commissioner to Barbados, Craig Fulton, Chef de Mission for Birmingham 2022 and Vice President of Commonwealth Games Barbados, Cameron Burke, and Assistant Secretary General of Commonwealth Games Barbados Shelley-Ann Griffith.

The Queen’s Baton Relay in Barbados will go through each of the island’s 11 parishes, starting on Saturday 23 April in St George.

Some of the notable sites the Baton will visit include the South Point Lighthouse in Christ Church, Bushy Park Racing Circuit in St Philip, Morgan Lewis Windmill in St Andrew, and the Holetown Monument in St James.

The relay will end in St Michael at the historic Garrison Savannah. The Queen’s Baton will leave Barbados on Monday 25 April and be passed onto Montserrat.

In a statement ahead of the relay, the President of the Barbados Olympic Association, Sandra Osborne said the Baton’s arrival was highly anticipated.

She added: “In anticipation of its arrival, vigorous planning has been taking place to ensure that this occasion is a memorable one, as the Baton makes its trip across our island. We hope all those who participate will enjoy the celebrations and cheer on our Baton bearers.”

The Baton will be carried by various local athletes representing several sports.

The Queen’s Baton Relay will cover 140,000km before arriving in Birmingham for the start of the Commonwealth Games, where the final Baton bearer will pass it back to The Queen. Her Majesty’s message to the Commonwealth will then be removed from the Baton and read aloud to mark the official start of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
