Ready, Set, Go! Run Barbados Marathon Weekend 2019
by Karen Rollins Nov 25, 2019
The streets of Barbados will be filled with hundreds of runners and walkers on the first weekend in December as the annual Run Barbados Marathon Weekend gets under way from 6-8 December.
Competitors from home and abroad are expected to line up for the weekend of races which include a 5k walk and run, a 10k and a half-marathon.
Participants will be flying in from New Zealand, South Africa, Poland, England, Trinidad, Martinique, St Vincent, St Lucia and several other countries.
The weekend begins with the ever-popular Friday Night Fun Mile which starts and ends on the Bay Street Esplanade. The mile is split into five competing races including a Junior Boys and Girls under 15 event and a fun race for costume runners.
Prizes will be given for first, second and third place in all categories as well as most original costume, best dressed couple, and best dressed group of five or more people.
A post-race ‘All you can Eat’ pasta buffet for registered runners and spectators will start at 7pm.
On Sunday 8 December at 5am the half-marathon and marathon runners will get ready to go. The route for these races follows the Esplanade through Bridgetown and past the scenic west coast of the island up to St James.
The race loops around before competitors finish back on Bay Street. Marathon runners complete two laps of the half-marathon course.
All finishers for every race during the weekend will receive a commemorative medal.
Local MC and comedian Mac Fingall will again provide entertaining commentary during all the weekend’s events. If you don’t want to race you can stand on the sidelines and cheer on the competitors.
