Barbados’ annual agricultural show, Agrofest, will get under way this year from 28 February to 1 March.

The large-scale
event, which regularly attracts over 60,000 local and international patrons,
features over 350 exhibits. Some of the most popular sections include an exotic
bird exhibit; petting zoo; children’s entertainment area; and art craft
village. (link)

This year’s theme, ‘We Gatherin’ We Fruit’, is part of the government’s ‘We Gatherin’ Barbados 2020’ promotion which aims to unite Barbadians at home and abroad through cultural events taking place in every parish in 2020.

Agrofest takes place in Queen’s Park, Bridgetown. It is produced by the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The BAS says the outdoor event provides Barbadians with an opportunity to “experience all the facets of Barbados’ agricultural sector”.

Some of the
other objectives of the exhibition are:

– To
demonstrate the symbiotic relationship between agriculture and the community.

– To portray
agriculture in a fun and interesting way.

– To
demonstrate the agricultural career opportunities for young people.

Agrofest’s
gates open from 10am-9pm on Friday and Saturday and 8am-9pm on Sunday. Tickets
are available from various box offices across the island or at the gate.

Visit the BAS website for more information or Agrofest’s Facebook page.
