Yello Interviews: Be.B,Anne Evelyn, Founder of BeBlessed Skincare

BeBlessed Skincare is more than just a business to its founder Be.B,Anne Evelyn.

She wants the brand to be the catalyst behind a “blessed” community of people who take care of themselves as well as others.

Be.B,Anne launched her skincare line in September 2019, and since then she has created an entire product range using lush, tropical ingredients such as hibiscus, rose, avocado, honey, and coconut milk.

Be.B,Anne shared her story with Yello. She told us about how she conceptualises her products and why her company is different from any other natural skincare label.

Adaptable, determined, and focused.

Please tell us a bit about your background.

I grew up in Barbados in a neighbourhood called Welches Terrace. I lived with my parents and three of my sisters.

During my childhood, I was taught to work hard from a very young age. My father and mother owned their own farm, so I would help on weekends and during summer vacation. I truly believe this is what developed me into the hardworking and determined young lady I am today.

I went to primary school at Charles F Broomes Memorial Primary School, then Christ Church Foundation School. Then I went onto Queens College to complete sixth form in business studies.

What were your interests / hobbies as a child? 

I used to love to explore everything around the house, so much so, if my parents misplaced anything, they would ask me where it was, and I’d know.

My interests then grew into ballroom dancing and ballet since both of my parents are professional ballroom dance teachers. I also did a bit of cheerleading at secondary school.

Did you always know you wanted to become an entrepreneur? 

I always knew I wanted to have my own business, but it had to be something I was passionate about.

When / why did you launch your skincare brand BeBlessed? 

I launched BeBlessed Skincare in September 2019.

I started my business because I wanted to spread awareness about natural skin products and the benefits you can achieve from using them.

How did you come up with the name? 

The name originated from my name ‘Be.B,Anne’ which means beloved and blessed.

I adapted it so persons, and their skin, can feel blessed through me!

What was the biggest challenge you faced starting the business? How did you overcome it? 

The biggest challenge I encountered was balancing the time to develop and grow my business along with my day job.

I had to restructure, focus on my time management, and develop a schedule for my many tasks. I also have a strong support group, which consists of my family and friends, who all encourage me.

What products do you currently offer? 

I currently offer a wide range of products including face and body soaps, whipped body and hair butters, body lotions, face moisturisers, face toners, face serums, face masks, hair and body oils, body scrubs, sugar wax, and lip balms.

What is the entire process from conceptualising a product and getting it to market? 

The process begins with what I’m looking to achieve from a product, whether it is soft, supple skin or more collagen production.

When I’ve decided what I want the result to be, I begin in depth research on oils, butters, and natural ingredients, comparing ingredients and looking for ones that work best together. This can be a lengthy process, but it’s worth it in the long run.

After my research is complete, I go into my studio and start to whip up the product.

The next step is the testing mode. I test the product on myself and a few of my close friends, who all have different skin types, so I can see how the product reacts on different people.

Once I like the results, I go ahead and launch the product to my Instagram page and catalogue.

Who are your clients? How do they find your products? 

My clients comprise of persons of all ages, men and women, since my products benefit healthy skin for all.

They find my products via my business Instagram page or by referrals from some of my customers.

How is your skincare line different from other natural brands? 

I believe my skincare line is different because I focus on spreading love through the products.

Every product is handmade with care, and I pride myself on producing quality products every single time.

My brand is also different because I love my customers. I always try to check in with them to see how the product is working and if they like it so far.

I really want everyone who comes into contact with my brand to feel blessed in some way or another.

How are you hoping to expand the business in the future? 

I am hoping to have my own skincare store where persons can come in easily and shop as they desire.

I’m also hoping to have my products in a few Barbadian stores.

What advice would you give aspiring Caribbean entrepreneurs? 

My advice would be to go for it! Once they are realistic, all your dreams and aspirations can come true.

I would also tell them to do some in depth planning to make sure they have it right the first time.

What do you love about Barbados? 

I love everything about Barbados. The people, the beaches, the food, and stability of the country, and the ability to have free education and to better yourself.

Where do you go to relax with friends? 

The beach! That’s the best place to go when I’m in need of a little relaxation.

What is your motto / philosophy in life? 

My motto is to do unto others as you would like them to do to you.

Also, to be grateful for every stepping stone in your life regardless of where you are right now. Life will only get better.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? 

My superpower would be to spread unconditional love to everyone who crosses my path. I really want to be a light in everyone’s life.
