Whether you’ve already given up meat or animal products, or are considering a lifestyle change, these five Belize food-spots have your dietary requirements covered.

Vegan Bites (Belize City)

This buffet in BTL Park offers vegan food with a Caribbean twist. The menu changes daily, based on the freshest ingredients and seasonally available produce. Some past delectable dishes they’ve served up include mushroom and kale pizzas, vegetable brown rice, tofu with black beans, and vegan pastas.

Elvi’s Kitchen (Ambergris Caye)

“Where something good is always cooking” is the slogan at Elvi’s Kitchen, an Ambergris Caye institution for the past 40 years. Perfect for pescatarians, this restaurant specialises in flavourful seafood dishes like shrimp kebabs, seafood creole and garlic roasted chipotle crab with Belizean sides like coconut rice and plantain.

Ko-Ox Han-Nah (San Ignacio, Cayo)

Roughly translated to “let’s go eat,” this affordable, farm-fresh bistro serves fusion food that ranges from Belizean to South Asian to Mexican. Though definitely not strictly meat-free, Ko-Ox Han-Nah offers a variety of vegetarian options including veggie burritos and quesadillas.

Sumathi (Belize City)

East Indian meets Belizean at this unassuming but mouth-watering establishment. With a menu full of vegetable and herb based dishes, there are options for both vegetarians and vegans alike. From pickled carrots to mixed vegetable kormas, sweet corn soups, dahl and channa, this spot keeps delicious in nutritious.

Veggie Garden (Belmopan)

Find fresh juices, vegan hot pots, pizzas and stir fries at this Taiwanese food spot in Belmopan. The on-site retail shop also sells Taiwanese cultural items.

More and more restaurants are incorporating vegetarian and vegan options into their menus. You don’t have to sacrifice flavour or variety at these accommodating establishments!
