Becoming a father has many surprises for some men. The magic of cradling their newborn and watching them learn and grow is a labour of love that many fathers enjoy.

Father’s Day is almost here, and many of us are preparing to treat dad to a day he won’t forget. At Yello, we highlight some of our fathers who share one thing about fatherhood that surprised them.

We caught up with Shadane Blackwood, Yello’s IT Systems Architect, who’s the doting father of a vibrant two-year-old boy, Chadane.

Shadane has been in the Information Technology industry (public and private sectors) for over 13 years. He’s passionate about creating innovative solutions to complex issues that some businesses experience. (www.losaltosresort.com)

When did you become a dad?

My journey as a dad started on 3 April 2020, when my son Chadane was born. It has been an enjoyable two years thus far.

What is one thing about fatherhood that surprised you?

What surprised me the most about this fatherhood adventure I am on is how fast Chadane learns and observes everything I do. I can recall him using a sheet of wipes to wipe down the dining table and putting his bottle and cup in the kitchen sink without instructions from me or his mommy. The saying stands true that kids live what they see, so I ensure to monitor my actions around him and involve him in the process when I’m doing anything around the house. An example is when he puts his clothes in the washing machine.

What are you looking forward to on Father’s Day?

I am a family man, so just spending time at home with my family will suffice. I’m also looking forward to a big plate of food!

What is a memorable Father’s Day memory for you?

I love a delicious meal, so a memorable Father’s Day was one spent enjoying a three-course meal from my wife. I also got a wrapped gift from my son and a full day of relaxation. I’m looking forward to nothing less this year.

Good food and spending quality time with family sounds like a great way to enjoy this Father’s Day. Thank you for sharing with us, Shadane. We hope your day brings you experiences and memories you can cherish. Happy Father’s Day when it comes!
