Two Championships – One Big Event: CARIFTA Games 2025
by Lou-Ann Jordan Apr 7, 2025

Trinidad and Tobago, prepare to cheer for your favourite athletes at two major regional championships, both of which will take place here on home soil. The XXXVIII CARIFTA Games 2025 Aquatics Championships occur from 17 to 24 April 2025, and CARIFTA Games athletics disciplines occur from 19 to 23 April 2025.
These two prominent competitions will see Trinidad hosting a large contingent of athletes from all over the region. While many may look forward to the athletics, it’s the top swimmers across the Caribbean who will take centre stage for the 38th edition of the Swimming and Open Water Championships. Before the sprinting, lounging, and vaulting, our aquatic stars will hit the blocks, push off, and keep us riveted with their style, grace, and speed. Fans will get to show their support over four days of swimming events, beginning 19 April at the National Aquatic Centre, Balmain, Couva. The open water, on the other hand, is a single event that takes place on Wednesday, 23 April. Competitors will gather at Five Island Beach, Williams Bay, in Chaguaramas.
Similarly, on Saturday, 19 April, professional track and field sportspersons will assemble for the foremost athletics competition in our region. CARIFTA has been the platform upon which many of our regional, now international, star athletes first captured our hearts. Usain Bolt (Jamaica), Kirani James and Alleyne Francique (Grenada), Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad), Kim Collins (St. Kitts-Nevis), Julien Alfred (St. Lucia), Thea LaFond (Dominica), and many others once graced these games. This year, all eyes will be drawn to the tracks at the Hasely Crawford Stadium as new and returning talent step into the spotlight.
The upcoming races are guaranteed to be exciting! It’s time to root for the Caribbean’s top athletes at CARIFTA Games 2025 in the swimming, open water, and athletics championships.
