We all know that moving home is one of the most stressful activities that we can go through.

Although the transition from an old home into a new one can be fun and exciting, the idea of packing up everything you’ve ever owned into cardboard boxes is daunting and can quickly become overwhelming.

However there are ways you can make your move as easy as possible:

Plan and prepare: Once you know you’re moving you can start planning your packing schedule – begin a few weeks before your moving day by putting away non-essential items which you don’t need and haven’t used for weeks or even months.

De-clutter: Use the opportunity to declutter and remove any unwanted possessions – if you find it hard to get rid of stuff then a good rule of thumb is to chuck out or give away items which you have not used or haven’t looked at for five years.

Make lists and labels: Write labels on packing boxes so you keep track of your belongings. Do not label boxes ‘kitchen’ or ‘bedroom’ but try to be as specific as possible, for example, ‘cleaning stuff for kitchen’. Keep a list of which items are going where in your new home so that you can begin to settle in as quickly as possible.

Survival kit: Pack a moving day survival kit of essentials which can be easily found on the day you leave – this should contain necessary items such as toiletries, phone chargers, bottles of water, snacks and provisions for hot drinks.

Of course you could also just hire a professional removals company which should take care of everything and reduce stress completely.
