Cayman Art Week 2022: Five Days to Experience the Exciting Cayman Art Scene

Art collectors, budding artists, and art enthusiasts it is time for Cayman Art Week 2022. Cayman Art Week is an annual week-long curated programme of gallery tours and open studios around the Cayman Islands. This year’s programme will run from 22 to 26 June 2022.

Here are some highlighted events to look out for.

Wednesday 22 June 2022: Words & Rhythm Forum

Words & Rhythm is Parcel 110’s music and performance development programme. The Words & Rhythm Forum is an open mic night for musicians, singers, rappers, and poets. The Wednesday night series will host a special event for Cayman Art Week 2022. The Forum starts at 7pm.

Thursday 23 June to Sunday 26 June 2022:

Cayman Art Week Daily Openings

From 10am to 5pm, participating galleries and studios will be open to Cayman Art Week guests. Contact galleries and studios to make special viewing arrangements. For details on the participating spaces, visit the galleries and studios pages on the Cayman Art Week website.

National Gallery of the Cayman Islands Daily Openings

The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands has two new solo exhibitions by renowned Caymanian artists, Nasaria Suckoo Chollette and John Reno Jackson.  The Gallery opens at 10am.

Thursday 23 June:

Gordon Solomon Live on Facebook

Enjoy a virtual session with Cayman Brac based artist Gordon Solomon. Tune in to his Facebook page at 7pm to find out what this artist is working on.

The Art of Island Jewellers

Island Jewellers, in partnership with The Gallery at the Ritz-Carlton, hosts a cocktail reception. Enjoy refreshments and learn about the Island Jewellers’ latest collection while browsing The Gallery’s exhibition. The reception starts at 7.30pm.

Friday 24 June:

Pure Art Gallery Meet and Greet Reception

Join gallery owner Debbie Chase Van der Bol at Pure Art from 5pm to 7pm for a ‘meet the artist’ reception. Debbie will be showcasing an exhibition featuring Joanne Sibley, Shirley Scott, Susannah H. Snowden-Smith, Jennifer Potts Goddard, and Mark Frazer. Refreshments will be provided.

Meet The Artist Night

Meet artist Kerwin G. Ebanks to celebrate his solo exhibition ‘Manavelins 3’ at the Cayman Handmade Collective at 5pm. The free family-friendly event will feature games and prizes, a benefit auction, live music by Bona Fide, canapés, and a cash bar with proceeds donated to Plastic Free Cayman. (swagatgrocery.com)

Art In the City – Gallery and Studio Tours, Central George Town

Cayman Art Week and George Town Revitalisation (GTR) are collaborating to host ‘Art in the City’. Galleries, pop-up exhibitions, and studios will open their doors for this special evening across central George Town, kicking off with a special GTR-hosted reception from 5pm-7pm at The White House – Regus and Monaco Towers.

Guests can enjoy an art-themed reception that celebrates the best of Caymanian artistry before heading out to visit the galleries, studios, and pop-up exhibitions around town.

Venues include Cayman Handmade Collective, Guy Harvey Gallery, Al Ebanks Studio, Crucial Ink Gallery, Parcel 110, Tansy Maki and Friends Pop-up Gallery, Pop-up exhibitions by Smooth Sailing Artist Collective at Le Vele Restaurant and Vine and Tap, Pop-up exhibition by Gale Tibbetts at The White Whale Pub, 3 Girls and a Kiln Studio, and Art Nest Studio.

The evening can be accessed on foot or via a hop-on/hop-off bus tour, which will run on a loop throughout the evening. Select George Town eateries will also be extending discounted dining to patrons as part of the initiative.

Saturday 25 June:

Open Studio and Paint with the Artist

Simone’s Art Gallery in collaboration with Cayman Brac Artists Meet will be hosting an en plein air watercolour session for Cayman Art Week.

Join Simone in the front yard of her gallery at 426 Spot Bay Road, Cayman Brac to paint a traditional Caymanian house.

Gallery and Studio Tours, Cayman Art Week East

Join a curator-led bus tour of the studios and galleries in Savanah, Bodden Town and Breakers from 9am to 1pm.

The bus will leave the Cayman Art Week Hub in Camana Bay at 9am and head to Kay Smith’s Studio, where guests can enjoy coffee and croissants.

The tour will continue to the White Dog Studio (Breakers), and The Visual Arts Society (Pedro St James) for a group exhibition, before looping back to George Town to view an exhibition of Miss Lassie’s work at the Mind’s Eye Centre and stopping at Pure Art Gallery.

This is a ticketed event; pre-registration is required.

Community Canvas with Gordon Solomon

Artist Gordon Solomon will lead participants in a collaborative art project on a large-scale canvas at his gallery. All art supplies will be provided along with refreshments.

Gordon will also be featuring an “Art in a Box – Little Cayman” giveaway.

Sunday 26 June:

Cayman Art Week 2022 Open Studio Day

Grab a Cayman Art Week Map and head off on a self-guided tour to studios around Grand Cayman and the sister islands from 10am to 2pm.
