Blogging has become a lucrative business for some people who have managed to turn their passion, whether that’s photography, food, fashion or music, into an online website which actually makes money.

If you’d like to get on the blog bandwagon then Yello has researched some of the best advice which should help you to make money from your interests as well.

The first step is to start a blog. This would seem obvious, but you need to have at least thought of a concept and have a website set up, before you can start making money from it.

If you’re not technically minded, don’t worry, there are plenty of sites which will help you get up and running with a suitable blog template such as WordPress.

The second step is to start creating content which people will want to see. Think of a niche market or demographic that’s interested in the topic you are blogging about and focus on writing for their needs.

Focus on making your content as useful as possible so that people will begin to value your opinion and keep coming back for more. Create your own voice which sets you apart from the hundreds of other blogs out there and helps people to see you as someone they can trust.

The next step is to build your following by actively promoting your blog. Utilise various strategies to get your blog noticed including posting updates on your other social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. Follow other bloggers who will hopefully follow you in turn.

Imagine the type of people you want to visit your site and where they may already be getting content from on the web. Create a list of blogs, vlogs, podcasts, and forums etc, where you will need to be present to attract your audience.

The fourth step is to interact with the community you are building. Create content which encourages engagement, ask your audience questions and when they respond, make sure you reply. Keep your audience interested by posting new content on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and push them through a call to action to spread the word about your blog to friends and family.

Once you have achieved the four foundation steps above, which will take a bit of time, you can start trying to make money from your blog.

The most common way to monetise your blog is affiliate income, which is when you link to a product that’s for sale on another site and if someone follows that link and buys a product you earn commission.

The next most popular is advertising income which is where an advertiser pays you to get access to your audience, but unless you have a large following you’ll probably need to go through a small business middleman such as Google AdSense, which is where many bloggers start.

Another popular way to make money is through subscription services, which is where your readers pay a weekly or monthly amount to read premium content, join an exclusive forum, or access a service that you’re providing such as coaching or mentorship.

These are just some of the ways that you can make money from blogging and you’ll probably need to take advantage of several, at least in the beginning, in order to make your blog worth it.

But remember, there’s no such thing as overnight success, so be patient and maybe, if you can wait, don’t quit your day job just yet!
