It is Carnival season here in the Cayman Islands and we are finally able to celebrate one of the most beloved annual cultural and entertainment events, Cayman Carnival Batabano 2022.
Launched in 1983 by the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman, Cayman Carnival Batabano is held during the first week of May.
This year the main Batabano events will include:

- Mind Yuh Business – Friday 6 May 2022 at 9pm at the Sandbar on North Church Street. Headlining the show is soca artist Patrice Roberts alongside Ricardo Drue! Music by DJ Eternal Vibes and DJ Fross. General admission is CI$70 online at Event Pro or at Le Classique at the Strand.
- Street Parade – Saturday 7 May 2022 at 1pm. The march starts at Easterly Tibbetts Highway behind Cost-U-Less and ends at Festival Green at Camana Bay.
- Carnival Village Food Festival & Las’ Lap – Saturday 7 May 2022 at noon at Festival Green at Camana Bay.
Yello caught up with the Cayman Carnival Batabano chair Donna Myrie-Stephen who shared that, “I am very thrilled and excited to be presenting on behalf of the people of Cayman Islands Cayman Carnival Batabano for 2022. It certainly has been a two-year hiatus, so the island is full of expectation, and the energies are high…And we do have a Carnival Village this year that we’re excited about. It is the first one. But to go back to the Parade, we are really thankful to government, despite the late advice…that the ban on carnivals have been lifted. We are grateful and thankful.”
Myrie-Stephen also shared that there will be a multi-cultural talent showcase at this year’s Batabano with people from Santo Domingo, Cuba, Honduras, Jamaica set to participate.
It is the 39th staging of the event and the team of volunteers that organise the event are very excited for what is to come for the 40th anniversary in 2023.
