In most countries, Remembrance Day is observed annually on 11 November to honour those that died in World War I.

Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I hostilities. The war formally ended ‘at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month’ of 1918, following the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente (UK and France).

In the Cayman Islands, Remembrance Day is observed as a public holiday on the Monday after Remembrance Sunday, and this year the public holiday is on Monday 15 November 2021.

In years gone by, in the days leading up to Remembrance Day, you would likely see people wearing a red poppy. The red poppy is a symbol to remember those who lost their lives in the conflict. And in some countries, there are annual poppy drives with the proceeds going to help take care of veterans.
