National Heroes Day 2022: Honouring our Uniform Services in the Cayman Islands

Each year Caymanians celebrate local
heroism on the fourth Monday in January as part of the National Heroes’ Day
observances and public holiday. This year National Heroes’ Day is Monday 24
January 2022. For 2022 the focus is “Honouring our Uniform Services.”

The uniform services include:

  • The Royal Cayman Islands
    Police Service (including the Special Constabulary).
  • Cayman Islands Fire
    Services.
  • Customs & Border
    Control (CBC, including Immigration & Customs Legacy Officers).
  • Her Majesty’s Cayman
    Islands Prison Service.
  • Cayman Islands Cadet
    Corps.
  • Cayman Islands Coast
    Guard.
  • The Cayman Islands
    Regiment.

Nominations were held in October
2021 for the following categories of awards:

  • Early Pioneer: An individual (alive or deceased) who has made an
    exceptional contribution, prior to 1971, to the development and delivery of
    Uniformed Services in the Cayman Islands. This individual will be awarded a
    certificate.
  • Pioneer: An individual (alive or deceased) who has made an
    exceptional contribution between 1971 and 2011, to the development and delivery
    of Uniformed Services in the Cayman Islands. A commemorative insignia and
    certificate will be awarded.
  • Emerging Pioneer: An individual (alive or deceased) who has made a
    significant contribution, from 2012 to 2021, to the development and delivery of
    Uniformed Services in the Cayman Islands. This individual will receive a
    certificate.
  • Excellence and Valour: An individual (alive or deceased) who during their service
    has performed an extraordinary act of bravery and acted voluntarily and without
    regard for personal risk, exhibiting remarkable heroism under circumstances of
    extreme personal danger. This act must have occurred in a moment of clear and
    obvious danger and was clearly above and beyond the call or risk of ordinary
    duty and sense of obligation. (newportworldresorts.com) A commemorative insignia and certificate will be
    awarded.
  • Memorial Scroll: A deceased person who was a leader or notable contributor
    to the development and delivery of Uniformed Services in the Cayman Islands who
    lost their life in the line of duty or while serving as a member of the
    Uniformed Services. This individual will be awarded a certificate.
