Dominica Comes Together to Celebrate 43rd year of Independence

Dominica celebrates 43 years of independence on 3 November 2021 with the theme: “United in Purpose: Our Health, Our Heritage, Our Culture”.
In a press release, Minister for Sports, Culture and Community Development, Roslyn Paul said the theme was chosen to remind Dominicans of their strong heritage of looking out for each other.
She stated: “It speaks to our collective Christian actions of finding solutions together to address our common issues and challenges. Indeed, we are a people with faith that God is at the centre of our lives and will continue to help us overcome our many challenges; we as a people of defined refuge in varying ways and different aspects of life.”
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Ms Paul encouraged Dominicans to make this year’s independence celebration a success. Some of the events which have already taken place include a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, History Week, Flag Day, and National Tree Planting Day.
Ms Paul said: “Dear Dominicans we must unite together. We need to do it for ourselves and for our families, our community, our frontline workers, and country as a whole and the various small and medium enterprises in Dominica.
“Continue to support the activities in whatever way that you can. Contribute when prompted to do so. Share Dominica and our culture at every opportunity that you are given but most importantly please remain safe as always.”
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will address the nation on 3 November, and a virtual National Cultural Gala will take place at 6pm.
Independence Day celebrations will culminate with a National Day of Community Service on Thursday 4 November where members of the public are encouraged to plant flowers and clean their communities while social distancing.
