Mas Domnik 2023: What You Need to Know about Dominica’s Carnival
by Karen Rollins Jan 16, 2023
Dominica’s carnival celebration Mas Domnik, dubbed ‘The Real Mas’, is back for 2023 with a calendar full of events leading up to Carnival Monday and Tuesday on 20 and 21 February.
Mas Domnik is a colourful recognition of the country’s African and French traditional roots expressed through music, art, and dance. It attracts hundreds of local and foreign revellers to enjoy beauty pageants, Calypso tents, street parades, and parties.
Mas Domnik is the first of three big events taking place in Dominica this year. Jazz N’ Creole will be held at the end of April into May and the World Creole Music Festival is scheduled for October.
In a press statement, chief executive officer and director of tourism at the Discover Dominica Authority, Colin Piper, said: “We are thrilled to be able to bring back all three of our major festivals in 2023. Our festivals give visitors a first-hand look into the rich sights and sounds of our island, and we cannot wait to welcome tourists to this year’s events.”
