World Autism Awareness Day

Autism Awareness Month is observed annually in April. The second day of the month is recognised internationally as World Autism Awareness Day.
In 2007, this international awareness day was established by United Nations General Assembly. World Autism Awareness Day seeks to raise global public awareness about autism and people with autism.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) refers to a range of complex developmental disorders. Those diagnosed with ASD generally start to show signs during early childhood. Autism affects a person’s verbal and non-verbal communication skills, motor function, language learning, and their ability to interact with others. The disorder affects people differently and to varying degrees.
World Autism Awareness Day is a platform for discussions about research, diagnoses, treatment, and awareness for those with the disorder.
“Light It Up Blue” by the organisation Autism Speaks is one of the largest initiatives on World Autism Day is. Homes, communities, famous landmarks and buildings around the world, are lit blue in a show of support for people living with autism.
