Digestion is an essential process in the stability of our overall health.  Yet, bad digestion is a common ailment for many of us.

The uncomfortable feeling in your stomach either before or after meals results from problems in the digestive tract.  Digestive health problems range from mild like having intolerance for certain foods to severe conditions like cancer. Of course, that is a broad spectrum with many other issues in between. Some common gastrointestinal problems are:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

IBS is a condition that results in recurring bouts of bloating, stomach pains.  Diarrhoea or constipation also occurs.

Lactose Intolerance

Lactose intolerance results from your body’s inability to break down a specific type of sugar: lactose.  When your small intestines are unable to produce the enzyme that helps break down and digest the sugar, your body becomes intolerant of lactose. Hence, you are lactose intolerant.

Gallstones

Gallstones are masses formed from calcium salts, cholesterol or coloured compounds (bile pigments) trapped in the bile ducts or gallbladder.  The stones block the duct and cause severe pain.

Now, maintaining a healthy diet is crucial in managing your digestive health.  Also, critical in ensuring optimal health is cleansing your body of impurities.  Yello Juice Bar is here to deliver another of our delicious concoctions.  We want to aid in your commitment to practising a healthy lifestyle.

In this issue, we present Gutsy Papaya.  This juice offers nutrients that will help your digestive system.  And, it’s simple: with papaya, pineapple and cucumbers we’ll whip up a brew that will make you forget it’s healthy.

Did you know papayas contain papain which breaks down meat protein and aid in your stomach’s overall health?  Meanwhile, pineapples have an enzyme that relieves gastrointestinal discomfort.  Cucumbers—work to cool down the digestive system.

Now, grab your blender, and let’s begin this quick and easy recipe:

Gutsy Papaya

½ cup of diced papaya

1 slice of fresh pineapple

½ medium peeled cucumber

1 cup of water

Preparation: Peel and wash all fruits.  Blend ingredients.  Serve. Add ice as an option to create a smoothie.
