The Alliouagana Festival of the Word returns from 15 to 18 November.

The coordinators continue to fulfil the mission to: “promote a world-class annual literary festival that connects partners, sponsors, artists, musicians and creative writers in a celebratory environment and fosters unparalleled development in local publishing.”

Named after Montserrat’s original Amerindian name, meaning land of the prickly bush, the festival promises to highlight local and regional authors, and encourage youth literacy.

This year’s event themed ‘Understanding Legacies, Celebrating Achievements, Embracing Tomorrow’, will take place at Little Bay’s Cultural Centre.  And, it will feature a programme of readings, panel discussions, spoken word performances and workshops.

Professor Carolyn Cooper and Sir Hilary Beckles will deliver opening lectures, followed by a weekend of spectacular events including lectures on ‘Walcott and legacies of colonialism’, ‘Impacts of slavery on Montserrat’, and ‘Colonial Winds of Irma’.

Youth events include the annual Word Up event with A-dZiko Simba Gegele, school visits, and a street book parade.

For more information on this exciting literary event, email the organisers at the Montserrat UWI Open Campus, [email protected] or call, 644-491-2344.
