Battle of the Drums

On Saturday, 17 November, the 13th annual Battle of the Drums will showcase Garifuna drumming, dancing and singing at the PG Sporting Complex in Punta Gorda Town.

Since its inception in 2006, the competition has become a popular local and tourist event. This charituy event supports the retrieval and preservation of Garifuna culture through programming by the Battle of the Drums Secretariat.

A singing competition and high school drum battle will culminate in the main event, where the selected six-person bands from across the country will compete in five categories of musical excellence:

  • Punta.
  • Hungu.
  • Paranda.
  • Chumba.
  • Wanaragua.

The champions will be announced at 6am on 18 November after a full-night of festivities, and will follow the 2017 winners, Laru Beya Band from Belize City.

Event Details

Date: 17 November 2018; from 7.30pm.

Venue: PG Sporting Complex, Punta Gorda Town.

Tickets: Available in advance at Beya Suites and Raju’s Variety Store.
