Barbados’ home of cricket, Kensington Oval, will play host to a different ball game in December when the Rugby Barbados World 7s competition takes centre stage.

This year’s event, which is on until 9th December, will be the latest edition of the longest-running Club Rugby Sevens tournament in the Caribbean. The tournament initially started in Trinidad over 30 years ago.

Some of the teams expected to attend are multiple winners ‘Border Reivers’ and ‘Rugby Ecosse’ both from Scotland, the ‘Howlers’ team from Canada, ‘Atlantis’ from the USA, Rugby West Indies and New Zealand’s ‘Arongatahi’ side.

The prestigious rugby competition moved to Barbados in December 2016, and this year attendees will be treated to an expanded line-up which includes Under-20s Men’s and Women’s divisions as well as the 12-team Senior Men’s and Women’s Open divisions.

General admission tickets are:

$40 (BBD) per day for adults

$10 (BBD) per day for children aged 18 and under

$2 (BBD) per day for children aged 10 and under

There are special packages available for fans who want to be in the Party Stand.

Off-field activities will include a charity dinner on Friday 7th December hosted by BBC presenter John Inverdale, and a fancy-dress Christmas carol singing competition on Sunday 9th December at Old Jammin in St Lawrence Gap.

Rugby Barbados World 7s is being held on the same weekend as Run Barbados 2018, so the organisers are encouraging people to “come for the run, stay for the rum, and revel in the rugby!”.
