Stock up on Essential Food Supplies and Provisions before the Storm
by Lisa Beauchamp Oct 28, 2019
The best way to approach your emergency food supplies list is to focus on ready to eat, non-perishable foods that don’t need cooking or refrigeration; that are easily preserved, and appeal to family members. Remember to try and stock foods that are calorie and protein rich to help maintain strength and energy.
Here is Yello’s recommended list:
Bottled water (one gallon per day per person)
Ice
Shelf-package juice and milk boxes
Canned and powdered milk (you’ll need extra water)
Beverages (fruit juices, instant coffee, tea, powdered, canned)
Prepared foods (canned foods and soups, including beef, tuna, chicken, ham, salmon, corned beef, pasta, fruit cocktail, packaged tasty puddings)
Canned vegetables and fruits
Dried fruits and trail mixes
Snacks (crackers, cookies, hard candy, nuts, chips, granola bars)
Cereals
Raw vegetables
Sugar, salt, pepper
Bread
Peanut butter/jelly
Dry and canned pet food
Extra formula, baby food
With careful planning, you can weather a storm with plenty to eat. Before you head to the supermarket, take a look at your hurricane list for the best survival foods to buy.
