Since 2018, young and old, Grenadians have had an opportunity unlike any other—one week of swimming lessons, and for free!

The Get Grenada Swimming initiative redresses the trend of islanders not knowing how to swim. Deb Eastwood, the founder of the non-profit organisation Grenada Youth Adventures, manages the programme.

Their mission is to teach 10,000 children and adults to swim between 2023-2027. Over the last five years, the programme has had massive success, with 9,892 new swimmers documented. They have also expanded their goal to include the certification of 100 professional swim instructors and coaches by 2027. Endorsed by the Government of Grenada and sponsored by the Sandals Corporation, the ‘Learn to Swim” initiative aims to equip locals with water safety practices.

The time for your little ones to learn to swim is now. Also, if you’re an adult but don’t know how to swim, there’s no need to be ashamed. Don’t delay. Register for this year’s Sandals Foundation Learn to Swim Week of free lessons. The programme caters to children five years and older and adults.

This year, classes occur from 10 to 14 July 2023, 9am to noon. Participants are invited to pick one hour, Monday to Friday and visit any of the 18 locations, including Grand Anse, Grand Mal and Good Hope pool.

In addition to the annual swim week, Get Grenada Swimming also offers year-round swim lessons at no cost. The classes are on Saturday mornings at 12 sites around the island.

It’s time to learn how to swim. Join the Get Grenada Swimming crew this year!
