Undoubtedly, Grenada is having an incredible year! In January, the island launched into a series of exciting events to herald its widely anticipated Golden Jubilee the following month.

We’re now in March, and the buzz continues in what has always been a time when our athletes strut their stuff.  Every March, the country is astir as the friendly rivalry among alma maters begins. Adults look on, remembering their glory days as secondary school athletes take to the fields in the annual Intercol games.

All our athletes, professionals, and up-and-coming individuals will take centre stage this year. First, the annual Grenada Inter-Secondary Schools Games will occur from 19 to 21 March. The local sports competition will be a precursor to the region’s premier sports competition. The Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Games, with the theme “Many People, One Region, Celebrating Athletics,” will take place from 30 March to 1 April at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in St. George. The event showcases the region’s budding under-17 and under-20 talents.

This is Grenada’s third time hosting the Caribbean’s biggest track and field sporting event. The island held the games here in 2000 and 2016. As in previous years, qualifying athletes from Barbados, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and other islands will descend upon the Spice Isle. Over the three days, the contenders will compete in hurdling, sprinting, jumping, throwing, and relay in the hope of achieving top ranking.

With tickets on sale for the various events, you can head to the national stadium to cheer on your favourite athletes. Visit Carifta Grenada on Facebook for more event or ticket information.
