Describe Guyana in three words.

Unique, home, traditional.

What is your favourite Guyanese traditional dish, and why?

Well, I think everyone in Guyana knows I love any kind of curry! I can eat curry every single day. But, around Christmas it’s all about pepperpot. Even writing about this, I get a twinge of excitement because it brings back so many fond memories of times when I was younger, and spending quality time with the family while enjoying a meal of pepperpot.

What is your favourite time of year?

Christmas in Guyana is something that you need to experience. No amount of literary description can describe the sounds, scents and scenes of the Christmas revelry in Guyana.

Where in Guyana do you like to kick back and relax with family and friends?

I’m biased by saying our lounge which is Gravity Lounge located on the 6th floor of the Footsteps Mega Store building on Camp and Regent Streets. It boasts a lovely panoramic view of Georgetown. If I am not at the Gravity Lounge, then, it is at home with my family. Quality family time is priceless.

What is your favourite TV show?

Jeopardy is my favourite television show. Alex Trebek, the host of Jeopardy and I attended the same high school, the Lisgar Collegiate Institute in Ottawa Canada.

 What is your favourite music?

I’ve lived in quite a few places, so my interactions with various cultures have enabled me to have a wide preference of music genres. This includes Dancehall, Pop, EDM and Alternative music. I cannot settle on a favourite.

What is your favourite childhood memory?

Playing all the young childhood games with my brother, sister and neighbours. These included cricket, dog in the bone, saul out and post to post.

Where is your favourite restaurant?

Too many to mention! From Gravity to the Market Vendors in the early morning hours to buy fresh eggballs. We have so many talented young chefs here in Guyana.

Where would you recommend as a ‘must go’ to a first time visitor to Guyana?

The Kaieteur Falls! It’s a majestic and mighty attraction. You really are humbled when you see this natural untouched beauty of nature.

Which local activist/personality do you admire the most, and why?

Sherod Duncan. He was recently appointed the Deputy Mayor of Georgetown. He brings a fresh view and is really interested in building up the youth groups in Guyana.

What major developments would you like to see happen in Guyana in the next 20 years?

We must build up our tourism sector here in Guyana. With the discovery of oil, there will be an increased amount of visitors to our country. But we must start with a strong hospitality industry. This means a complete Hospitality Management training facility that is recognized regionally. We can spend millions of dollars in tourist infrastructures, yet if we do not have properly trained individuals to manage these ventures, then it is all for nothing.
