by Carolyn Lee Jun 2, 2025

The Black River Film Festival (BRFF) will occur from 27 to 28 June 2025. The event, now in its second year, received 48 film entries, highlighting a boost in submissions from last year’s 19 entries. Special focus is given to elevating and empowering filmmakers and creatives in the region and emphasising the fascinating story of Black River.
The festival aims to cultivate budding filmmakers and ignite creativity in rural Jamaica. It celebrates filmmaking and is a catalyst to inspire young people to explore filmmaking, documentary creation, and creative expression.
The event will be at Cloggy’s on the Beach in Black River, St Elizabeth. Locals, regional, and international visitors will attend. Attendees can expect film screenings, panel discussions, networking opportunities, a distribution and co-production forum, live entertainment, and artisan shops.
Some presenters at the event include Juliet Ibrahim (Ghana), Stephanie Hazle (Jamaica), Samad Davis (USA), Cédric Pierre-Louis (France/Martinique), and Angela White (USA). Other presenters are Kevin Jackson (Jamaica), Ruth Phume (South Africa), Hon. Floyd Green, and Jackie Jacqueline Jackson, among other distinguished panellists.
BRFF ticket options include a BRFF Weekend pass, BRFF After Party Only tickets, general admission tickets, and BRFF VIP tickets. You can get festival updates via their website, www.blackriverfilmfestival.com or Instagram page, @blackriverfilmfestival.
