Sometimes dangerous things seem innocent.

One of the most dangerous threats to both our marine and land environment is plastic. Turks and Caicos is a stunning place, with beautiful beaches and turquoise water. Our environment does a lot for us and it’s important that we take steps to protect it.

Global plastic pollution has reached critical levels. According to the World Economic Forum, it is estimated that eight million metric tonnes of plastic ends up in the oceans every year.

As we become more aware of the negative impacts that plastic pollution has things are slowly beginning to change.

The Osprey Beach Hotel on Grand Turk has made great strides in its environmental practices. In May 2018, the hotel announced that they had done away with plastics. The hotel uses 100% biodegradable materials. Even their ‘thank you’ bags are fully biodegradable. Osprey Beach Hotel is putting the environment first.

If you’re thinking about reducing the amount of plastic you use, it’s easy! Start carrying reusable bags when you go shopping, take a reusable water bottle with you, and say no to single-use plastics like straws and forks.
