The European Union – Jamaica 5K: ‘All Together Against Crime and Violence’
by Carolyn Lee Mar 6, 2023

Each year, several activities aim to bring awareness to crucial issues that the public can assist with alleviating. Many organisations have partnered awareness campaigns with sports, allowing participants to get active while supporting a worthwhile venture.
On Sunday, 12 March, Downtown Kingston comes alive at 6:30am when the Delegation of the European Union to Jamaica will host its first European Union – Jamaica 5K. The theme for the event is ‘All Together Against Crime and Violence’.
The goal is to showcase the EU’s support for Jamaica’s Citizen Security Programme. During the event, participants will enjoy music along the course encompassing sections of the city’s art walk and coastal boardwalk.
People interested in registering for the event can do so via the Running Events Ja website. Individuals and teams must register online and can pay using a credit card or Visa debit card. The contribution to participate is JM$2,000 per person for individuals and groups. This fee also includes a unique race T-shirt, entertainment, and medals for the first 2,000 finishers.
Race packet pick-up

Participants must collect their race packages before race day from the Office of the Delegation of the European Union to Jamaica at 8A Fairway Avenue, Kingston 5, on Thursday and Friday, 9-10 March. Collection times will be from 11am to 4pm each day, except on Saturday, 11 March, when the process starts at 1pm and closes at 3 pm.
Each entrant receives a bib with an embedded timing chip to provide personal time from the start to the end of the race. Participants will have a bib number with their name and the event they enter. Your bib is encoded with your information and pinned to the front of your shirt. Please do not switch or give your bib to anyone, as this is not allowed once registration is closed. Also crucial, there is no bib collection or pick-up on race day.
Registration deadline
Registration for this event ends on 3 March 2023. Please be aware that entries to this event are not refundable or transferable; name changes are also not allowed.
Route
Participants can meet at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade parking lot at the corner of Port Royal Street, Downtown Kingston. The race starts at the corner of Port Royal Street and George’s Lane and culminates at the corner of Port Royal Street and Hanover Street.
