Many of us look forward to celebrating Father’s Day with our dads. We’ve bought gifts and planned activities we hope will show him how special he is to us. At Yello, we are spotlighting some of our fathers to let them know that we value them and want to hear their stories about fatherhood.

So, we caught up with Kevin King, Rollover Sales Consultant, and a “girl dad.” Kevin has worked in sales for over 13 years and has a degree in culinary arts. He shares one thing about fatherhood that surprised him and what he’s looking forward to this Father’s Day.

When did you become a dad?

I became a dad in 2010 at the age of 23.

What is one thing about fatherhood that surprised you?

One thing about fatherhood that surprised me was the sense of responsibility. At 23, I was still outgoing and partying, so knowing someone’s life depended on me gave me perspective. My routines changed, and I had more financial responsibility, so my priorities also changed.

Tell us about your experience raising two girls.

I have two girls; Kyla is 11, and Ava-Renae is almost five. We are not yet at the stage where I can have the “talk” about serious things yet. Kyla is laid back and enjoys movies. At this age, she is starting to have a social life, so I go on “dad dates” with her and her group of friends as a chaperone. They both love movies and Roblox.

Are there any activities that you always do together?

I enjoy activities with them like sightseeing, visiting the cave, movie dates, etc. Both girls also love going out to restaurants. Recently, Kyla rattled off at least 20 that we’ve already visited. She loves Marvel films, so whenever one comes out, we go and see it.

Share a character trait you adopted from your dad.

My father died when I was 11, but I remember how he would go all out for us. So, I try to do the same as best I can. Life, when I was a kid, is a lot different from now. I’m trying to make their lives comfortable and pleasing.

Have the girls ever given you a Father’s Day gift that still makes you smile?

Kyla made and gave me a card that looks like a suit with a tie for Father’s Day last year. She is so creative. I still have it and some of the other stuff she’s made over the years.

What are you looking forward to this Father’s Day?

Honestly, Father’s Day is usually relatively quiet. Our family gets together for food, some entertainment, and fun. This year will mostly be the same. I’m looking forward to spending time with my girls.

We know Kyla and Ava-Renae will keep a smile on Kevin’s face this Father’s Day. Perhaps she’ll surprise him with another creatively done gift to add to his collection. Thank you for sharing with us, Kevin. Have a happy and enjoyable Father’s Day with your family.
