Are you on LinkedIn?
You’ve probably heard of it before, the career-focused social media website.
Maybe you’ve never joined because you don’t see the value or you’re on there but not really making the most of it.
LinkedIn is actually a great tool for networking in your industry or with those in the industry you want to be in. It’s a way to share the projects you’re proud of and have HR managers and other industry influencers see your skills. Having a strong LinkedIn page might even help you land a job.
Here are six tips to help you master LinkedIn.
1. Have a complete profile
The more complete your profile, the more likely you’ll be spotted by potential employers on LinkedIn.
2. Have a professional headshot for your photo
A good LinkedIn photo is key. Profiles with photos tend to get more views and interaction than those without. You should look professional, so leave party photos for Instagram.
3. Be expressive
With LinkedIn you have the chance to add a little personality and flair to your career story. Don’t just copy and paste your resume, be human and dynamic. Think about your target audience and tailor your voice accordingly.
4. Show off your interests and expertise
Publish articles that deal with interesting industry-related topics. Show off your writing chops. Have some insights? Write about them, share them, and recruiters will see. This is a fantastic way to get noticed.
5. Join groups
Groups on LinkedIn are great tools to help you connect. When you join a group related to your field, you instantly make connections with others in your profession. Being part of a group shows that you’re engaged and allows you to take part in relevant discussions.
6. Use the right words
Have a look at the jobs that you’re interested and make note of the skills required. Try to sprinkle these keywords throughout your profile. This will increase the likelihood that you’ll be found by a job recruiter.
