Over the last 14 years, Montserratians, young and old, have greatly anticipated November. Local and regional literary enthusiasts wait with bated breath for one of our most popular annual events, the Alliouagana Festival of the Word (AFW Litfest), and its encapsulating activities.
With the theme Our Future. Our Stories, AFW Litfest 2023, will once again allow us to learn more about ourselves as a people. More importantly, our youth will benefit significantly. It’s a chance for us to help them develop a greater sense of identity as they engage with the various stories that highlight our island, people, and culture.
One of the Caribbean’s top literary fests, AFW 2023, will kick off on Thursday, 16 November 2023, and end on Saturday 18 November 2023. As is tradition, the three-day festival will showcase the works of local, regional, and international authors, artists, and spoken word poets. Also, it will feature a combination of virtual and in-person activities.
This year’s schedule will include a tribute to the late Howard Fergus, who passed away in March. Additionally, avid writers can look forward to attending writing and publishing workshops to get tips on publishing their works. Also, the “Meet the Authors” event will allow future writers to garner helpful information on developing their craft during interviews with selected authors. Of course, there will be music and dancing at the Author Gala and Book Launch.
There is no reason not to participate in the Alliouagana Festival of Word 2023. It’s guaranteed each day will feature a myriad of activities the whole family can enjoy. Deck the family in the official festival t-shirts and have fun. Don’t miss it!
