Without action, dreams are just dreams.
If you’re to ready to bring your dreams into reality, you’ll need the tools to do it. Vision boards are one tool that can motivate you to take action every day in pursuit of your goals.
Here’s how vision boards work and tips for how to make your own.
What is a vision board?
A vision board is a collage of images and/or words that represent and clarify a dream or goal. They are usually displayed in a prominent place and viewed daily to provide inspiration and motivation.
Vision boards help you manifest your dreams by reinforcing affirmations and keeping you focused.
Here are some examples of vision boards:
How to create a vision board
There are many ways to create a vision board: glue magazine cutouts to a poster board, design a digital collage and set it as your desktop background, write and draw on a whiteboard, or stick magnets to your fridge.
No matter which style is most visually appealing for you, these tips will help you create a vision board that gets the job done.
- Make a list of your values: Start by writing down the things that mean the most to you; integrity, adventure, learning, flexibility, etc. By doing this, you’ll clarify the foundations of your dream and identify exactly why you’re chasing it.
- Create a list of goals you’d like to achieve: Make a timeline for yourself, i.e. goals for the coming month, or goals for this year. Once you’ve made a list of everything you’d like to achieve within that time, see if you can distil them into a few overarching ideas. Your vision board should be as focused as possible; try to make it concise rather than including everything.
- Find images that represent your goals: Vision boards are all about visuals. Look for pictures of people, places, or things that represent the values and goals you’ve outlined. To make your board even more appealing, try colour coordinating your images or playing with different shapes and dimensions. The better it looks, the more likely you are to engage with it every day.
- Include words: While images will be the basis of your board, try including a few keywords that inspire you. If adventure is one of your values, print or write that word in beautiful font to add impact and affirmation.
- Engage: Once you’ve compiled your vision board, display it in a place of honour; your dreams should be forefront after all! Spend a few minutes every day, preferably in the morning, contemplating your board. Without engagement, the board can’t motivate you to act.
Achieving goals is an uphill climb, and sometimes you need a push to keep you moving forward. A vision board is a great tool to inspire action; create one using these tips to get out of your slump and make your dreams a reality.
