It is common to feel some anxiety about life in general, or more specifically about family, work, health—the list goes on.  Yet, have you found you’ve been experiencing higher levels of anxiety or stress of late?

Without a doubt, events over the past couple of months give much cause to for increased stress levels.  Whether it’s being concerned about ours or loved ones’ health, our jobs, or the general state of things, it’s been a lot.  The fact is we may have all found ourselves dealing with an inordinate amount of mental pressure.

Fortunately, there are many ways to ease the stress we may be under.  Yoga and mindfulness practices are two well-known techniques that offer relief.  Also, a quick search on the internet will open up scores of articles sharing useful tips for managing anxiety.   

There are also certain foods that aid in reducing anxiety. Often when we think of citrus fruits, our primary concern is getting our intake of vitamin C.  However, vitamin C is known for causing a reduction in stress hormones.  You read correctly; oranges, grapefruit and other citrus fruits are excellent stress relievers. 

Equally, stressbusting are vegetables that boosts your body’s magnesium levels.  Green leafy veggies, namely spinach, are notable sources of this body-regulating nutrient.  If you’re not a fan of spinach, why not swap for kale?

Beat That Stress Drink

4 carrots peeled (chopped)

1 cup spinach or kale leaves (chopped)

1 tablespoon honey

1 ½ cup filtered water

Preparation: Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Pour the juice into a glass and enjoy.  And, to make smoothie substitute water for ¾ cups ice, add a peeled banana, and ¾ cup of plain yoghurt.
