Once again, the biggest open-water swimming event in the Caribbean is set to kick off. The annual Nevis Cross Channel Swim is scheduled to take place this April. The event sees local, regional, and international swimmers unite in what is considered an adrenaline-charged swim.

With this year marking its 23rd anniversary, the Nevis Cross Channel swim will take place on 6 April 2024. Competitors begin in Nevis and head to St. Kitts in open water, across what is commonly referred to as the ‘Narrows’.

Organised by the SKN Swimming Federation, the Cross Channel Swim involves a two-and-a-half-mile swim from Oualie Beach in Nevis beginning at 8am to Cockleshell Bay on the sister isle. The path itself is quite superb, as the water is incredibly clear. It offers a spectacular view of various marine animals along the way.

There is a nominal fee to participate, and registration will be done on both islands on 5 April 2024 between 2 and 7pm at Oualie Beach, Nevis and Spice Mill, St Kitts. Also, provisions have been made for those in St. Kitts, as boat transfers are available on the morning of the race. Participants will depart St. Kitts at 6:30 for the 15-minute drive across to Nevis.

Come and join the throng in an open-water swimming event that cannot be rivalled. If you’re not much of a swimmer, then bring the family and cheer on the athletes at Oualie Beach or congratulate them at Cockleshell Beach.

Also, if you’re considering joining the swimmers for the first time, you must prepare well. Check out our article on tips on preparing for your first cross-channel swim.
