Best Beaches in the Caribbean: Dover Beach, Barbados
by Karen Rollins May 5, 2025

Dover Beach in Barbados is situated at the southern end of the well-known St Lawrence Gap. It has golden sand, turquoise waters, and a plethora of restaurants and bars within walking distance.
This beach is popular with visitors and locals, but it is long and wide so there is lots of room to sunbathe or even play a game of beach football or tennis.
Toilet and shower facilities are available at the beach. Sun loungers, beach chairs, and umbrellas as well as surfboards, jet skis, and other water-based equipment can be rented.
The sea at Dover Beach can be unpredictable, especially during the hurricane season, so it is best to stay close to the shore if you are not a strong swimmer. There are also a few dips in the sand underneath the water, so bathers are advised to take care when walking in the sea, and you should also pay attention to the warning flags put out by the lifeguards on duty.
Once you get hungry, Johnny Cool’s Jazz and Blues Beach Bar is right on the sand, and the ideal location to get a bite to eat and a refreshing drink. Several other food vendors are also close by in purpose-built huts.
Amigo’s restaurant in Time Out Hotel is situated across the road from Dover beach. It offers a friendly atmosphere along with plenty of food and drink including rotis, wraps, and sandwiches. The Rhum Stop is open every day from 7.30am and offers karaoke nights, a live band experience, and brunch on Sundays.
Free parking can be found right next to the beach although the car park is very small. Further parking options are available along nearby streets just be careful not to block driveways or entrances for homes or businesses.
On the weekend or a weekday evening at Dover Playing Field, which is just over the road from the beach, you might be lucky enough to see a semi-professional football or cricket match, or even a road tennis game!
