St Lucia will celebrate 41 years of independence on 22 February 2020 under the theme ‘Now is the Time, Let’s Do This Together.’

In a press release from the St Lucia Government Information Service, Culture and Creative Industries Minister, Fortuna Belrose, said this year’s theme “calls Saint Lucians to action, and is an extension of Independence 40”.

Chairperson of the Independence 41 Planning Committee, Jeannine Giraudy-McIntyre, urged citizens to fully participate in the various activities throughout February which started with a gospel concert (1 February), the Mister Independence Pageant (7 February) and the Legacy Calypso Show (8 February).

President of the National Youth Council, Nyus Alfred, said the organisation will be focusing on ways to “inculcate a sense of pride and unity among the youth” through youth specific activities including the upcoming National Youth Parliament.
