Celebrating St Lucia’s 41st Independence Day

St Lucia will celebrate 41 years of independence on 22 February 2020 under the theme ‘Now is the Time, Let’s Do This Together.’
In a press
release from the St Lucia Government Information Service, Culture and Creative
Industries Minister, Fortuna Belrose, said this year’s theme “calls Saint
Lucians to action, and is an extension of Independence 40”.
Chairperson
of the Independence 41 Planning Committee, Jeannine Giraudy-McIntyre, urged citizens
to fully participate in the various activities throughout February which started
with a gospel concert (1 February), the Mister Independence Pageant (7
February) and the Legacy Calypso Show (8 February).
President of
the National Youth Council, Nyus Alfred, said the organisation will be focusing
on ways to “inculcate a sense of pride and unity among the youth” through youth
specific activities including the upcoming National Youth Parliament.
