UB40, Mya, Tarrus Riley, Ginuwine and Estelle are just some of the international stars who will be performing at this year’s St Lucia Roots and Jazz Festival from 23-25 August.

The festival, which is now in its third year, is “dedicated to musicians who are setting new trends in reggae, conscious hip-hop, Afro-punk and R&B,” according to the official Events St Lucia website.

Over three days, music fans will get to experience established and rising stars, at free and paying concerts in various parts of the country, including the Pigeon Island National Landmark.

Workshops and masterclasses offering local artists the chance to interact and engage with the performers, and others in the music business, will also be on offer.

Events St Lucia adds: “This event will bring together musicians, record labels, online music stores and platforms, specialised journalists and other actors in order to enhance market access for Saint Lucian and other musicians and producers.”

In a press release, chairperson of Events St Lucia, Agnes Francis, said this year’s lineup was influenced by fans who came to the festival in 2018.

She said: “We got a lot of feedback last year when we did our surveys following ‘Roots and Soul’.

“We did an exit survey and we asked people who’d be the top three persons they’d like to see. UB40 came out as the top and because UB40 is a reggae band, we then had to look for other content to ensure that we had that roots and soul repertoire that we were looking for.”

Reggae, R&B, hip-hop and soul connoisseurs are sure to have an amazing time!
