St Lucia is enhancing its appeal to bird watchers, adventure travellers, and nature lovers with a new wildlife tour highlighting the island’s six rare, endangered species.
Labelled the ‘Small Six’ tour, this new experience from the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) will be run in partnership with renowned British bushcraft expert and TV presenter Ray Mears who is a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation.
The aim of the groundbreaking and unique wildlife adventure is to raise awareness about St Lucia’s conservation efforts and encourage sustainable tourism practices while showcasing the country’s extraordinary biodiversity.
Visitors will venture beyond St Lucia’s well-known stunning landscapes and vibrant culture to explore lush rainforests and remote trails in search of the:
• Saint Lucia Parrot.
• Saint Lucia Black Finch.
• Saint Lucia Oriole.
• Saint Lucia Worm Snake.
• Saint Lucia Whiptail Lizard.
• Saint Lucia Pygmy Gecko.
Led by local birding and conservation expert Adams Toussaint and his team, the ‘Small Six’ tour puts a different slant on African wildlife safaris which are often associated with Africa’s ‘Big Five,’ a term used to describe the continent’s most iconic, large animals.
According to a press release, Ray Mears was chosen as an ambassador for the ‘Small Six’ campaign because he is one of the world’s most respected survival experts and naturalists and has spent decades teaching people how to connect with and respect nature.
The ‘Small Six’ tour lasts for two days and will be available year-round; giving visitors the chance to immerse themselves in an authentic, off-the-beaten-path adventure, connecting to nature, and working to protect it.
