St Lucia at 40: Independence Day Celebrations

St Lucia will be celebrating 40 years of independence on 22nd February 2019.

This year’s special milestone is being marked by a year-long calendar of events which started in January and includes beauty pageants, several sports tournaments, church services, the annual Prime Minister’s Ball and Good Deed Days.

The theme for the 40th celebration is ‘ALL IN Our Journey Our Future’.

During the press launch to outline the upcoming events, Chair of the Independence Committee and President of the Senate, Jeannine Giraudy-McIntyre said: “We mark this historic milestone in the life of our proud young nation with a calendar of events lasting one full year…

“A year of praise and thanksgiving, a year of taking pride in our nation’s many achievements, a year of remembering our journey since that faithful day in February 1979.”

14th-22nd February: Prayer Trail

15th February: Miss Independence Pageant

20th February: Unveiling of ‘All In’ sculpture

21st February: Independence Rally and Award of Excellence

22nd February: Independence Walk

22nd February: Independence Road Relay

22nd February: Independence Day Parade

23rd February: Prime Minister’s Ball

24th February: DASH Independence Colour Run 2019

24th February: Bikers Independence Around the Island
