‘Celebrating a Vincentian Unique Tradition’: Nine Mornings Festival 2022
by Karen Rollins Dec 5, 2022
The Nine Mornings Festival in St Vincent and the Grenadines is back for 2022 under the theme, “Celebrating a Vincentian Unique Tradition.”
Nine Mornings is held every year from 16-24 December. It usually culminates at 4am on Christmas Eve in Heritage Square, Kingstown.
Last year the popular event ended at Victoria Park because of the COVID-19 pandemic and only fully vaccinated patrons were allowed to attend. The festival finale was streamed live online.
Speaking at the official launch for this year’s festival on Sunday 4 December at Heritage Park, Cultural Officer Maxine Browne, told the people gathered that it is their responsibility to ensure the Nine Mornings Festival continues, “because it is our culture.”
Minister of Tourism, Sustainable Development and Culture, Carlos James, reiterated the view that all Vincentians should strive to “keep the culture of Nine Mornings alive”.
He also revealed that going forward the festival’s name will be temporarily changed to ‘The Nine Mornings Village’ to reflect its appeal to everyone.
