Vacation schedules and budgets don’t always match up when you’re trying to plan a trip.

You shouldn’t skip travelling just because you can’t find someone to go with you.

In fact, taking a solo trip at least once is a rewarding thing to do for many reasons. Here’s why you should take a solo getaway.

It changes your perspective
Any trip has the potential to be eye-opening, but a solo trip even more so. When you’re on your own you’re forced to be fully immersed in the new environment you find yourself in, to take in more of the culture, the different sights, sounds and smells without that safety blanket of your travel buddy.

You meet new people
When you travel with someone you end up naturally socialising almost exclusively with that person or group. Travelling solo opens up new social doors, you’ll end up meeting people from all over, other solo travellers, locals, who will enrich your trip in exciting ways. Making friends on a trip is an incredible experience.

You’ll feel more confident
Knowing that you’ve successfully tackled a new city, a new transportation system, new food, maybe even navigating around another language, is a huge confidence boost. If you did that all on your own, you’ll know that you’re capable of more than you may have realised before.

It’s good to leave your comfort zone
It’s scary, but leaving your comfort zone is a courageous experience. Travelling alone pushes you to learn how to be comfortable in new situations; you’ll learn how to handle and embrace being in unfamiliar situations, with unfamiliar people and challenges. Solo travel makes you better at putting yourself out there, meeting new people and trying new things without the influence of others.

You learn about yourself
Travelling solo gives you the opportunity to spend quality time with the most important person in your life – you. In our daily lives we often miss out on that crucial alone time to think and reflect on ourselves.

Improves problem-solving skills
You’re forced, in the event of any issues, to be creative and tackle problems head-on without as much help as you’re used to having at home.
