The paleo diet has been gaining steam among health-conscious eaters, particularly those with grain allergies and autoimmune conditions.

By removing grains, dairy and common allergens, the diet claims to detox the body and support a healthy gut.

If you’re considering going paleo, here are three paleo-compliant breakfasts to fuel your morning.

Grain-Free Cereal with Raisins and Coconut Flakes

Most nuts and seeds are allowed on the paleo diet. Just be sure to avoid peanuts which technically classify as legumes! You can make a grain-free breakfast cereal using your favourite nuts and seeds that only takes approximately 15 minutes.

Method: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Arrange your choice of nuts and seeds on a baking sheet. Options include almonds, pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and walnuts. Bake for 10 minutes, keeping a close eye on the nuts to ensure they do not burn. Remove the nuts from the oven and top them with coconut flakes or shredded coconut. Bake for another two to three minutes or until coconut is toasted.

Remove pan from oven and allow to cool. Add to a bowl with raisins and drizzle with honey if desired. Pour in your choice of dairy-free milk and enjoy!

No-cheese Veggie Omelette

Omelettes are a great paleo breakfast option that gives you the protein and nutrients to jump-start your day.

Method: Whisk two eggs in a bowl and set aside. Chop desired vegetables; options include mushrooms, spinach, sweet pepper, tomatoes and onion.

Heat extra virgin olive oil in a pan over medium heat, then add veggies. Cook until peppers soften, and onion is just cooked through. Pour eggs over vegetables; flip once the egg has started to fluff around the edges.

Plate and season with salt and pepper as desired. Skip the cheese!

Egg in an Avocado

The paleo diet is generally high in healthy fats, and avocado tends to feature heavily in recipes. Thankfully, it’s delicious!

Method: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice an avocado in half and remove the seed. Scoop out a bit of the meat to create a larger hole for your egg. Crack two eggs and pour them into the avocado holes— season with salt, pepper and paprika. Bake for 15 minutes or until the eggs are cooked. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped green onion.

Going paleo may seem restrictive, but there are so many delicious foods you can still eat. While you’ll need to cook many of your meals to follow the diet correctly, there are plenty of quick recipe options that won’t take you hours to make!
