Organic spirulina algae powder.

Spirulina is a well-known superfood and another hugely hyped nutrient rich food in the health and fitness world. So what is it? Spirulina is a nutrient rich cyanobacteria, high in Chlorophyll with tons of benefits. Spirulina is an algae powder that is incredibly high in protein and a good source of antioxidants, B-Vitamins and other nutrients. When harvested correctly, from non-contaminated ponds and bodies of water, it is one of the most potent nutrient sources available.

Pretty cool, right?

It’s got a bit of a pond- scum smell and not the most pleasant of tastes, but the health benefits outweigh the flavour. Plus, you can add it to a fruit smoothie and not taste a thing!

But what are the benefits?

  • Most nutrient dense food on the planet – the concentration of protein and vitamins in spirulina has led many to glorify it as such.
  • High in vitamin B1, iron, calcium and protein.
  • Contains other vital nutrients such as B2, B3, B6, B, C, D, A and E. Also a good source of potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, sodium and zinc.
  • With 65% protein and amino acids, including essential fatty acid gamma linolenic (GLA), Spirulina is a great anti-inflammatory.
  • Studies show it may help in balancing blood sugar.
  • Contains powerful antioxidants.
  • May help those with allergies.
  • High in Chlorophyll which helps remove toxins from the blood and boost the immune system.
  • Known to increase fat burning during exercise, boost endurance and help muscle growth.

Please talk to your doctor before consuming spirulina, as those with disorders such as PKU or autoimmune disease do not respond well to this supplement. If you are pregnant, nursing or have any medical condition, it is important to discuss with a medical professional before consuming anything new.
