Commonwealth Day 2023

Turks and Caicos will celebrate Commonwealth Day on 13 March under the theme ‘Forging a sustainable and peaceful common future’.

According to the official Commonwealth website, this year’s theme “combines the active commitment of member states to support the promotion of peace, prosperity and sustainability, especially through climate action, so as to secure a better future for our young people and improve the lives of all Commonwealth citizens.”

Commonwealth Day is a bank holiday in TCI and a chance for citizens to reflect on being part of the 56-member bloc which includes billions of people in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.

The day is observed by all Commonwealth members but only TCI and Gibraltar have a public holiday to mark the occasion.

In the UK, Commonwealth Day 2023 will be celebrated with a multicultural, multi-faith service held at Westminster Abbey which will feature a procession of young flag bearers representing the 56 member nations.

A wreath-laying ceremony at the Commonwealth Memorial Gates and a flag-raising event for the Commonwealth Flag for Peace will also take place.
