Since its inception over 48 years ago, Southern Medical has grown from a hospital to a one-stop medical facility, with 3 operating theaters, a specialized oncology center and some of the best and most modern equipment in the Caribbean. With the opening of the state-of-the-art Millennium Wing in 2008, (which houses the oncology center) Southern Medical has become one of the most trusted centers for the diagnoses and treatment of cancer. Southern Medical Clinic has been a pioneer of medical achievements in Trinidad & Tobago, having the first CT scanner in the early 80's, and the first MRI scanner in the Caribbean. In 2015, history was created at the institution, when a team of doctors at Southern Medical removed the largest tumor in the western hemisphere and the second largest ever in the world.
