Domus Windows & Doors Ltd is a Caribbean-based world leader in manufacturing quality uPVC windows and doors.
There is understandably a plethora of aluminium fabricators in the Caribbean. While uPVC manufacturing requires expensive, sophisticated equipment, anyone with a saw and screwdriver can cut and assemble aluminium windows and doors.
However, in the world's most sophisticated markets, aluminium has largely been replaced in the market, and for good reason. uPVC's position as the preferred material in the Caribbean is due to its aesthetics, clean lines and elegance. Additional valued features are that painting is not required, is easy to clean, requires little or no maintenance, has the lowest lifecycle, and has ownership cost. Also, its welded corners cannot lead or deteriorate over time. The latter stands in contrast to aluminium which, with cut corners, inevitably leaks and requires seal replacement. Another benefit of uPVC is that it does not use
rubber gaskets, as utilised in many aluminium windows. In the Caribbean, heat and sunlight crack these seals, causing leaks and requiring regular replacement.
In Germany, where the use of uPVC as a building product was pioneered, more than 75% of all windows and doors are constructed from it. The rest of the market is divided into aluminium, wood, stainless steel, fibreglass, steel, and other materials.
Notably, in the rest of Europe and the UK, more than two-thirds of all windows and doors are uPVC alongside other materials.
