Antigua Sailing Week 2021

Antigua Sailing Week will be going virtual in 2021 because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The two-hour event on 25 April will be streamed via Facebook and YouTube from 4pm-6pm (AST). It will include highlights of sailing in Antigua, interviews, and live entertainment from English Harbour. Attendees will also be given a chance to win two trips to Antigua to stay at the luxurious Carlisle Bay Resort.

Organisers say the virtual show aims to connect locals, the diaspora, supporters and participants of Antigua Sailing Week, sailing fans, and anyone interested in Antigua and Barbuda as an active or leisure destination.

Event manager, Rana Lewis, said: “In the void created by the 2020 cancellation, we relied on social media flashbacks to previous years to maintain visibility and our spot on the calendar.

“After the cancellation of 2021, we sensed the need to interact with our worldwide audience in real time while sharing highlights of racing in Antigua and Barbuda. Essentially it is our way of extending an invitation to come as soon as is safely possible to race, chase and celebrate with us.”

Chief executive officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James, added: “Antigua Sailing Week plays an important role within the yachting pillar of our tourism marketing strategy. This event allows for the creation of jobs and revenue and as such the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority remains committed to supporting Antigua Sailing Week.”

Race organisers are looking forward to physically staging the premier event in 2022. A week-long schedule from 30 April-6 May 2022 has already been published, and highlights include the ‘Peters & May Round Antigua Race’, breakfast at Shirley Heights lookout, and a final awards ceremony.
