As Arubans, we’re known for being ‘One Happy Island’, and many things contribute to this national disposition. For one, as some have been known to say, our climate. Our warm, sunny temperatures foster joviality, especially since we make good use of every opportunity to engage in outdoor sports and activities.

Our propensity to ‘soak up the sun’ either by lounging on the beach, beach camping or playing sports is possibly why we maintain a light spirit. Whether you agree or not, what’s indisputable is that we do love being outdoors, and occasions that draw even greater local and international numbers are our beach tennis tournaments.

Of course, several usually take place, but our Aruba Open Beach Tennis Championship is the mammoth of all tournaments. Since 2008, beach tennis aficionados and budding talents have assembled to participate in what is today a world-class international sporting event.

Once again, the crème de la crème of beach tennis players will descend on Bushiri Beach. From 12 to 19 November 2023, the island will come alive not only with the elite in the sport but also as local, regional and international spectators come together to see who emerges this year’s champion.

The seven-day series will comprise games for amateur and professional players. Excitement will heighten with electrifying single, doubles and mixed doubles matches. The tournament will also feature thrilling matchups such as the ‘Sexy Grand Masters’ for male and female 50+ competitors. Of course, there’ll be live music and tasty treats to enjoy. It will all culminate in a grand finale, at which the victors will receive the spoils totalling US$70,000.
