Caribbean Destination Guide: St Lucia’s Anse de Sables Beach

Anse de Sables (also known as Sandy Beach) is one of Saint Lucia’s largest beaches at almost 2km long, but it has remained largely untouched and undeveloped due to its remote location close to the island’s southern tip.
Reefs shelter the bay, while the reliable Atlantic trade winds make it ideal for experienced wind and kite surfers, as well as stand-up paddleboarders. A nearby water centre offers water sports equipment for rent and even lessons from November to May.
Countless palm trees provide plenty of shelter for sunbathers and because this beach isn’t close to the normal tourism hotspots, you will find lots of space to stretch out and relax.
Maria Islands, which is home to the world’s rarest snake, the Saint Lucia racer, and the endemic, endangered Saint Lucia whiptail lizard, is clearly visible from the sand. You can even book a fishing trip and tour of the nature reserve through the St Lucia National Trust or various local operators.
When you are looking for something to eat and drink, you’ll find several restaurants near to the beach like The Reef Beach Café and the town of Vieux Fort is less than a kilometre away. The area’s nearest and only major hotel complex – Coconut Beach Resort – is about 2km away.
